I really love being able to sink into the instrument. Just having it on the shoulder there as a little companion...it feels like a new version of home to me.

All of us are so lucky to play on these instruments. This one fell into my lap—300 years of history.

It was love at first sight. But it will take me years to unlock all the possibilities and for us to really understand each other.

More important than the actual sound quality of the instrument is what it inspires in us... There is some kind of magic sauce there.

APPASSIONATO, a new documentary by director Jackie Paré, turns the spotlight on a trio of passionate relationships: musicians with their instruments, patrons with musicians, and audiences with performers—a pitch-perfect concert that both enriches and uplifts all of us. How does everyone benefit? These musicians play not only in concert halls, private homes, and at festivals, but also in prisons, refugee camps, schools, and hospitals.

The connection: One day the phone rings and the music changes. A modern Medici buys a Stradivarius, say, but wants more than a financial return. The reward would be to hear it come alive in the care of a musical prodigy—someone who has long dreamt of this moment. But this deep, mutual connection lives on borrowed time. These are loans, not gifts. And they are all too rare.

Angst aside, these extraordinary musicians and generous patrons unite us in these divided times. With your help, APPASSIONATO will have a global reach. It will screen at conservatories, universities, summer music camps, benefits and galas, conferences, and festivals, on public television, and online. The lush cinematography, rapturous music, and compelling stories will carry far and wide this film and its goal—to connect more patrons and prodigies for the benefit of us all.

Every dollar is tax deductible!
